Evan Ferguson is on the verge of completing a move to AS Roma, with the Brighton striker expected to finalise the deal later on Monday.
The 20-year-old forward has flown into the Italian capital to undergo medical checks and put pen to paper on a season-long loan agreement.
The deal includes a €3 million loan fee, with Roma securing an option to buy the player permanently next summer for €40 million. However, the clause is not mandatory, allowing the Italian side flexibility depending on Ferguson’s performances in Serie A.
Brighton are understood to be open to the arrangement, seeing it as an opportunity for the highly-rated Irishman to gain valuable experience at a top European club. Ferguson, who made headlines with his breakthrough performances in the Premier League, had attracted interest from several clubs before Roma made their move.
If all goes to plan, the striker will become the latest addition to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad as Roma look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. His arrival is expected to be confirmed officially within the next 24 hours.
