Real Betis sealed Pau Lopez return

Real Betis confirmed the return of Pau Lopez on Tuesday. The goalkeeper has terminated his contract with Toluca to sign for Manuel Pellegrini’s side until 2028.

International goalkeeper Pau Lopez has signed for Real Betis on a free transfer from Toluca, committing to the next three seasons. The Seville club officially announced the deal on Tuesday, marking the shot-stopper’s return seven years later.

The 30-year-old Girona native completes the goalkeeping reshuffle at Real Betis, following the free transfer arrival of Álvaro Valles. Fran Vieites, who is entering the final year of his contract, is expected to depart.

This will be Pau Lopez’s second spell at Real Betis, having initially signed for the club in the summer of 2018. In his only season before being sold to AS Roma for 23 million euros, he made 35 official appearances and earned his senior international debut in a friendly against Bosnia.

After two seasons with Roma, Pau Lopez spent another three at Olympique Marseille, racking up 127 official matches. Last season saw him loaned to Girona until January, before joining Toluca, who signed him at the start of July, but with whom he reached an agreement to terminate his contract and return to Spain.
