The Nigerian national team have safely returned home after a terrifying mid-flight incident forced an emergency landing.
The squad had been flying back from Polokwane, South Africa, following their 2-1 victory over Lesotho on Friday, when the aircraft’s windscreen suffered a heavy crack.
The flight, organised by the Nigerian government to transport the players from Angola, had to divert, delaying their arrival in Uyo, where they are due to face Benin in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Among the stars on board were Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed the incident caused significant delays but praised the safe return of the squad.
Players expressed relief at being home safely, with attention now turning to their next World Cup qualifying challenge as Nigeria aims to reach their seventh FIFA World Cup.
