‘It’s unfair’ – De Jong openly disapproves Villarreal match being staged in Miami

Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong addressed the media, voicing his concerns about playing the match against Villarreal in Miami. The midfielder was forthright, admitting his disapproval and stating it’s unfair to the competition.

The official confirmation of the Villarreal-Barcelona match being held on American soil is set to generate considerable debate. Initial reactions have already seen widespread criticism on social media and from various figures within the sport. However, one of the key protagonists, Frenkie De Jong, has made his position unequivocally clear during a press conference with the Dutch national team.

“I don’t like that we’re going to play there, and I don’t agree with it,” he asserted. “It’s not fair to the competition. I don’t like it, and I don’t think it’s right for the players.”

De Jong understands the club’s perspective: “For the clubs, it’s about expanding their brand globally. That’s probably what it’s about. I understand the position, but I wouldn’t accept it, and I don’t share it.”

“The clubs are going to profit from this, but I don’t agree with playing a league match in Miami. I understand that other clubs may not agree,” he concluded.
