‘BFM Marseille Provence’ reports that police have arrested an individual for assaulting Olympique Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd, as he waited to travel with Morocco at Marignane Airport.
There is outrage in France following the incident involving Nayef Aguerd. The Olympique Marseille centre-back was the victim of an assault this Monday as he prepared to fly to join up with the Moroccan national team for this international break.
‘BFM Marseille Provence’ reports that Aguerd, who played for Real Sociedad last season, was in the VIP lounge at Marignane Airport waiting to board when an apparent fan approached him to ask for a photograph and his telephone number.
During this encounter, the situation began to escalate, and witnesses say that the individual, described as “unhinged”, began shouting and tried to slap the 29-year-old footballer.
The situation did not escalate further due to the intervention of Marseille Airport’s private security, who detained the aggressor until the police arrived to arrest and subsequently interrogate him. Aguerd chose not to file a complaint at the time, although it is not ruled out that he will do so.
