Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Dario Essugo has undergone successful surgery on a thigh injury sustained while on international duty with Portugal Under-21s.
Chelsea Football Club have released an official update on the condition of midfielder Dario Essugo.
The 20-year-old was forced off while representing Portugal’s Under-21 side during the recent international fixtures. Following medical assessments, surgery was deemed necessary as the most effective treatment for the thigh injury.
In their statement, the club confirmed: “Midfielder Dario Essugo has undergone successful surgery today on his thigh. The 20-year-old sustained the injury whilst on international duty for Portugal’s Under-21s. Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action and Dario will now begin his recovery at Cobham, supported by the club’s medical department.”
Essugo will now focus on a structured rehabilitation programme alongside Chelsea’s medical staff at the training ground. The Portuguese youngster has yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea following his summer arrival.
