Guardiola: “I need to talk to my president; we’ll decide later”

Pep Guardiola leaves his Manchester City future up in the air after Bournemouth draw, stressing he still has a year left on his contract.

Speculation has been rife in the English press about the potential end of the Pep Guardiola era at Manchester City, following a decade of dominance under the Catalan coach. After City’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Guardiola chose to keep his cards close to his chest.

“Listen, I still have one more year on my contract. I’m not going to reveal my decision here because I need to talk to the president, the players, the staff…” he told ‘beINSports’.

Reflecting on his ambitions, Guardiola added: “When we compete in the FA Cup, qualify for the Champions League, or aim for the Premier League title, my goal is always to take the team to the highest level. And that’s what we’ve done.” The City boss appeared visibly downcast on the pitch after losing the Premier League title to Arsenal.

In his post-match press conference, the Manchester City manager reiterated his contractual situation and the need for discussions with club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. “The first person I need to speak to is him. When the season ends, we’ll sit down and talk. It’s as simple as that, and then we’ll make a decision,” Guardiola explained.

He also stressed the importance of timing, warning that making announcements mid-season could lead to “a very bad outcome”. “We’re fighting for this. We’ll prepare for next season,” he concluded.
