Chelsea’s winning streak came to an abrupt halt as they surrendered a two-goal advantage in a 2-2 draw with Leeds United on Tuesday, dropping two points that could prove costly in the battle for Champions League qualification.
Liam Rosenior, unbeaten since taking charge, experienced his first draw in frustrating fashion. Chelsea had cruised to a 2-0 lead by the 65th minute thanks to Joao Pedro’s exquisite solo goal and Cole Palmer’s calm penalty finish after a clumsy foul by Jaka Bijol on Pedro.
Palmer’s strike marked his fourth goal in two games, taking his season tally to nine across all competitions.
However, Chelsea’s control unravelled quickly. Moises Caicedo’s careless challenge on Bogle gifted Leeds a penalty, converted by Lukas Nmecha in the 67th minute.
A later defensive mix-up between Acheampong, Malo Gusto and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez allowed Noah Okafor to tap into an empty net, completing a remarkable comeback for the visitors.
Chelsea still had a chance to snatch victory, but Cole Palmer’s stoppage-time miss from an open goal sealed the draw. The Blues remain on 44 points, while Leeds, who have lost just once in their last six matches, move up to 30 points, leaving Rosenior with his first dropped points in charge.
