Under-fire Frank claims backing of Spurs hierarchy

Thomas Frank insisted he retains the support of Tottenham’s hierarchy after the under-fire boss met with the club’s powerbrokers on Monday.

Tottenham’s disappointing 2-1 defeat against West Ham on Sunday led to speculation about Frank’s future at the club. Fans voiced their frustrations, chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” as Tottenham’s struggles deepened. Despite the setback, Frank led training ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League visit on Tuesday, determined to keep his job.

Following the West Ham loss, Frank met with Tottenham’s CEO Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange, and club executive Nick Beucher over lunch on Monday. “I’ve just been, how can you say, feeling the trust along the way,” Frank shared. “I had lunch with Nick, Vinai and Johan today and it was all good. It’s all part of the media circus, and I can only think about winning against Dortmund.”

Since being appointed seven months ago, Frank has struggled to make an impact. After replacing Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked, the club’s form has been poor. The West Ham loss marked their third consecutive defeat, leaving them in 14th place in the Premier League and already out of the FA Cup and League Cup.

Frank took responsibility for the team’s situation, acknowledging that even top managers like Pep Guardiola admit that success depends on their players’ availability. “But hey, no problem. I am happy to take the blame as long as everyone supports the players,” Frank said, adding that staying calm and focusing on the task ahead was key.

The pressure on Frank has been compounded by fan criticism of his defensive tactics and reliance on set-pieces for attack. In contrast to Postecoglou’s more entertaining style, Frank’s approach has drawn frustration. “It is not about me. It is about supporting the team,” he stated, emphasizing the need for resilience and unity at a time of crisis.

With injury problems adding to his woes, including the absence of Ben Davies following ankle surgery, Frank only has 11 fit outfield players for the Dortmund match. He remains hopeful, saying, “We need everyone to support us from minute one. If we get that support, anything can happen. Magic can happen.”
