David and Locatelli fire Juventus past Udinese into Coppa Italia quarter-finals

Juventus overcame Udinese in Coppa Italia Last-16 clash thanks to goals from Jonathan David and Manuel Locatelli, clinching a spot in the next round.

Luciano Spalletti’s Juventus have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia thanks to a victory over Udinese, secured with goals from Jonathan David and Manuel Locatelli. A pragmatic performance from the Bianconeri, who controlled the match without taking major risks and secured passage to the next round.

The match didn’t offer any particular excitement in the early stages, with the first significant chance arriving in the 11th minute. Kenan Yildiz connected well from the edge of the area and shot towards the bottom left corner, but Sava intervened confidently, keeping the score at 0-0.

The deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute thanks to Jonathan David. The forward received a perfect through ball that sliced through the Friulian defence. The young Belgian striker made no mistake and slotted into the bottom corner, unlocking the match in favour of the Bianconeri. Udinese tried to react and scored in the half-hour mark through Kingsley Ehizibue, but the goal was disallowed for offside; the same fate befell David a few minutes later, denying him a personal brace.

At the start of the second half, Zaniolo tried to shake up Udinese with a shot from the edge of the area that ended just high. In the 66th minute, a stamp by Palma on Cabal gave Juventus a penalty: Locatelli didn’t miss from the spot and made it 2-0. In added time, Openda found the net, but the goal to make it 3-0 was disallowed for offside.

Juventus take home an important victory, which is worth progression to the next round and gives confidence ahead of the big league match against Napoli next weekend.
