Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his pleasure after Nico O’Reilly signed a new five-year contract, extending his stay at the club until 2030.
The 20-year-old, promoted from City’s academy, has been a versatile presence for the first team, recently adapting admirably to the left-back position due to injury challenges within the squad.
Guardiola highlighted the midfielder’s development, stating, “I’m really pleased because Nico is growing a lot. Since he started playing, I think we have lost just one game in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace”.
The manager also noted O’Reilly’s improved aggression and threat from set-pieces as key attributes contributing to the team. O’Reilly follows teammates Rico Lewis and Ruben Dias, who have also recently secured new deals with the club.
Pep confirmed the club’s commitment to retaining its promising talents, saying, “We want him, so we did the effort that we need to help him stay here longer”.
The young midfielder has made 27 appearances across competitions this season, impressing with five goals and two assists, demonstrating his growing influence within Guardiola’s ranks.
