Barkley emerges as key target for Lampard’s Coventry rebuild

According to reports in England, Coventry City manager Frank Lampard is targeting Ross Barkley as a priority signing ahead of the summer window.

The experienced midfielder is set to become a free agent when his contract with Aston Villa expires, making him an attractive option as Coventry prepare for life in the top flight.

The Sky Blues return to the Premier League for the first time since 2001 after a dominant Championship campaign. A commanding points tally and a comfortable margin at the top secured automatic promotion, marking a significant milestone in the club’s recent resurgence.

Lampard is now focused on strengthening his squad to ensure competitiveness at a higher level. Adding proven Premier League experience is seen as a key part of that plan, with Barkley fitting the profile of a player capable of contributing both on and off the pitch.

The 32-year-old has barely featured regularly this season, though largely from the bench, and has found opportunities limited under Unai Emery.

A move to Coventry could offer him a more prominent role, while providing the newly promoted side with creativity and top-flight know-how.
