Reports in France claim that Paris Saint-Germain are ready to let Marco Verratti go because they consider the Italy international over-paid and over-weight.
The midfielder has been at the club for 11 years and never actually played in Serie A, signed from Pescara in the season they earned promotion from Serie B.
He was one of the squad’s most popular figures, but this has been by far his worst campaign in Paris.
According to Le Parisien and Actu Foot, there are several reasons behind PSG losing patience with Verratti.
The first is his on-field performance, as while he has never been one to contribute goals, there were also only two assists so far this term.
The other is his discipline off the pitch, especially when it comes to his weight, as it is reported Verratti returned from the break for the 2022 World Cup – which Italy did not qualify for – significantly overweight.
That is considered unforgivable after he was given a new and improved contract earning €1m per month gross.
The fans have recently turned on several of the top PSG stars too, including Lionel Messi and Neymar.
