Bayer Leverkusen announced on Thursday that Granit Xhaka has left Arsenal to continue his professional career in the Bundesliga. The midfielder has played seven seasons for the Gunners.
Granit Xhaka’s seven-year stay at Arsenal has come to an end. The midfielder has left the Emirates Stadium to begin a new adventure in the Bundesliga.
Bayer Leverkusen announced on Thursday that Xhaka will be part of Xabi Alonso’s squad for the 2023/24 season. The 30-year-old has played 297 competitive matches for the Gunners, scoring 23 goals and assisting 29 times.
“We are saying goodbye to a fantastic player and person loved by all of us. It has been an incredible journey together for him and he has given absolutely everything for this club,” Mikel Arteta said.
The German side have reportedly paid £21.4 million for his transfer and he will strengthen Bayer’s midfield next campaign.
“In Granit we have been able to bring in an absolute top player. His ability on the pitch is well known. But, above all, there are few players who are able to so convincingly lead a team like he does thanks to his outstanding mentality and personality,” Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes claimed.
