Erik ten Hag backed an injury-hit Mason Mount at Manchester United’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Red Devils’ match against Chelsea, where the Red Devils’ No. 7 will visit his former home.
Mason Mount decided to swap the Blues for the Red Devils last summer in a transfer that cost £60 million. The England playmaker dared to choose the Mancunian club’s iconic number 7 worn by legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.
However, since his arrival at Old Trafford, injuries have prevented the England international from living up to expectations. Despite this, Dutch coach Erik ten Hag has never lost faith in him, and reaffirmed this at a pre-match press conference against Chelsea after his late goal against Brentfrod earned the Mancunians a draw against the Bees.
“I was so happy for him. But so sorry for him also that it wasn’t the winner. He deserved that moment of glory, maybe it was such a small moment but, for a player who came in and suffered so many injuries and worked so hard all the time, and had so many setbacks, it was so frustrating,” he said
“I don’t think Chelsea wanted to sell him. They wanted to keep him and they even offered him a new contract many times. But he wanted to make the step and we were, and we are, very pleased he is a Man United player because he has great abilities. He will become a big player for Man United,” concluded the Dutch boss.
