Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday the 22 players called up for the derby against Atletico on Thursday at 21:30 CET. Despite physical problems, Rodrygo Goes will be available for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Brazilian striker Rodrygo Goes has been named in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for Thursday’s Copa del Rey last-16 clash against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano 21:30 CET. The four Madrid players who missed out on the Spanish Super Cup: Thibaut Courtois, Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao and David Alaba will miss out through injury.
After not training with the group for the second day in a row and needing more rest due to physical discomfort, Rodrygo Goes was included in the squad and Ancelotti, who confirmed the striker’s fatigue but ruled out injury, will decide whether he starts or comes on as a substitute against Atletico.
Lucas Vazquez, who will recover from his muscle injury for Real Madrid’s next game, will not make it in time for the Madrid derby, as Ancelotti announced. The three injured players with cruciate injuries – Courtois, Militao and Alaba – are still out for longer.
Ancelotti’s only changes in the squad compared to the one made for the Spanish Super Cup won in Riyadh by Real Madrid, is the change of Diego Pineiro as third goalkeeper in place of Fran Gonzalez, plus the exclusion of two home-grown players like Alvaro Carrillo and Nico Paz. Brazilian Vinicius Tobias and midfielder Mario Martin remain.
