After another impressive performance for Manchester City, summer signing Savinho has drawn comparisons to Barcelona’s youngest star Lamine Yamal. The Brazilian’s performance in the 4-1 win against Ipswich – which saw him pick up an assist – blew Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson away.
Speaking at full-time, he said: “The kid, Savinho? Oh my… what a star. He’s gonna be a superstar. He runs with the ball but his decision-making is unbelievable. He reminds me of Yamal, the young kid from Spain. They can dribble, their decision-making, they get their head up, they make that right pass at the right time and dribble at the right time. He’s gonna be a superstar, I haven’t seen anything like him for a long time.”
Savinho’s start to life at Manchester City has had a significant impact as Pep Guardiola’s side look to claim their fifth consecutive Premier League title. The 20-year-old has been keeping both Jack Grealish and Phil Foden out of the team, which is a significant achievement considering the latter has just won the PFA Player of the Year award.
Having started both Premier League games so far, Savinho is hoping to keep his place in Guardiola’s starting XI. Next up for the champions is a trip to West Ham as they look to keep their 100% record alive.
