Chelsea news and transfers LIVE: Graham Potter future, Jose Mourinho stance, new manager list

Chelsea news: The latest Blues stories as it happens with updates on Graham Potter, Jose Mourinho and potential new managers

It was another tough day for Chelsea as they fell to defeat yet again under Graham Potter. This time it was a 2-0 loss to Tottenham, the first time the Blues have lost at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the league.

The lack of response from Potter’s side in the second half added fuel to the fire though with fans continuing to vent their anger towards the team once more.

It comes as Jose Mourinho is a name linked with a remarkable third spell at the club, football.london has taken a look at everything he has said about the Chelsea job whilst a shortlist of potential new managers emerges and is examined.

“Another day to forget” – National media reacts as Chelsea suffer defeat against Tottenham

Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League table having won just twice in their last 15 matches. It was yet another toothless display from the Blues who are now closer to the relegation zone than they are the top four.

Graham Potter is facing increasing pressure from the Chelsea fans who are losing patience with the former Brighton boss. Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge just six months ago, but there are now calls for him to be sacked before the end of the season.

The west Londoners are one of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League this season with 23 goals scored in 24 league matches, highlighting a key issue Potter must correct if Chelsea are to start getting results. The 47-year-old’s misery continued as Thiago Silva had to be substituted after suffering a knee injury, with the Brazilian proving to be a key player in defence this season once again.

Todd Boehly decision

Another damaging defeat for Chelsea has left Graham Potter on the brink as Chelsea were condemned to a third loss in a row, now without a win in six competitions. The loss to Tottenham was their first in the league at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and comes with owner Todd Boehly watching on from the stands.

Having been booed off the field against Southampton last weekend it was a game that signified more than just a London derby for the boss. Having entered what appears to be a crucial three game spell to save his job, it got off to the worst possible start.

After battling through in a scrappy first half a goal within 60 seconds of the restart for Oliver Skipp compounded the poor form. Harry Kane’s second sealed the deal for Chelsea as Potter was jeered with chants of ‘sacked in the morning’ from some fans inside the stadium.

Jose Mourinho stance

Jose Mourinho continues to be linked with a return to his former club Chelsea as Graham Potter suffered yet another loss in charge. In a battle between two of Mourinho’s former sides it was Spurs that beat the Blues, an ignominy that he only suffered twice in 14 matches across two spells.

The Portuguese boss is currently enjoying a different type of challenge in Italy with Roma but has reportedly made his intentions of a return to Stamford Bridge clear. Such is the form of his old side it is comparable to the atmosphere in which he left the club for the second time in 2015.

Chelsea are currently 10th in the league but rank 14th since Potter took over and are now 10 points off the relegation zone as opposed to 14 from the top four. With one win in 11 matches and fan frustration evident, it is unsurprising to see new coaches linked with taking over from Potter.
