Sergio Busquets recalled his sporting career in an interview with ‘DAZN’. “The last years in Barcelona were the bitterest part of my career”, admitted the former Barca captain.
Sergio Busquets has already decided where he will play next, according to ‘Mundo Deportivo’. He has various offers on the table, including one to join former teammate Leo Messi in Miami and two to make the move to Saudi Arabia. The pull of Messi in the MLS could be enough to take him to the USA.
In the meantime, the former Barcelona captain recalled his sporting journey in an interview with ‘DAZN’. “When you don’t win titles, it’s because you haven’t competed well, and at the end of the day, we as players are responsible for that, but on top of that was the fact that the club’s situation wasn’t the best at the social level. On an economic level, we weren’t all united”, he stated.
“The last few years at the club have been the bitterest part of my career“, continued the defender, recalling the up-and-down last few seasons as one of the heavyweights of the Catalan club.
The Guardiola chapter
Busquets also looked back on the role of Pep Guardiola, who most recently secured the Champions League trophy: “I’ve had good coaches, but they didn’t go beyond that, especially in the lower categories, where they are also almost more educators.
I think Pep was more than a master, a crash course in what it means to be a professional. I was very young, they were my first years. I came from being in the youth team with him and I also had that advantage”, Busquets explained.
“Pep received a lot of criticism. I think Pep would think: ‘I work a lot on tactics, but I also want to be on top of my players, give them instructions and having this noise doesn’t help me. Everything we show, they are clues for the rivals,” he said.
