Hiroki Ito lasted 21 minutes on his Bayern Munich debut on Sunday. The Japanese defender injured his right foot in a duel. Club sporting director Max Eberl said the Japanese may have “a fractured metatarsa”l and could be out for a long time.
Unexpected setback for Bayern in pre-season. Hiroki Ito, who was signed by the Germans this summer, had to make a substitution 21 minutes into the match against Duren because of a problem with his right foot. The defender went off badly in a duel in the 18th minute.
The Japanese player looked crestfallen as his teammates were supporting him on the pitch. Not least because he was making his debut for his new club, who paid 30 million euros to secure his services.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl spoke to ‘Bild’ after the game and gave the fans some bad news: “Yes, Hiroki has a broken foot. It is likely that he has broken his metatarsal. He will be out for a long time.”
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Bayern are planning to sign one more centre-back following the Japanese defender’s misfortune. The priority target is Bayern Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah.
