Major League Soccer unveiled its second Team of the Week of the season and, once again, Leo Messi made the list. Alongside the Argentine, his close friend Luis Suarez was also selected after his brace in Inter Miami’s last match against Orlando City.
Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, who each scored a brace in Inter Miami’s 5-0 win over Orlando City on Saturday, were both named in the MLS Team of the Week on Monday.
Messi, who was also in the best XI of the first week of the American championship, repeats in the best line-up announced by MLS after starting the season with three goals in as many games.
The Argentinian did not score in his side’s opener against Real Salt Lake, but scored a goal to earn a 1-1 draw at Los Angeles Galaxy and netted a brace against Orlando in a 5-0 win in the Florida ‘Clasico’.
Luis Suarez, who opened his MLS scoring account with a brace in the last game, made his first appearance in the MLS Team of the Week.
“I’m very happy that I was able to score, we already know what Luis is, what he is capable of doing, everyone knows. When you least expect it, he solves the game for you,” said Messi at the end of the duel with Orlando when addressing Suarez’s game.
The best XI of the week also included Cincinnati’s Argentinian Lucho Acosta, who provided an assist in his side’s win at Chicago Fire. In addition, Colombia’s Andres Gomez, who had a goal and an assist in Real Salt Lake’s 3-0 win over Los Angeles FC, makes this week’s line-up.
