Tension erupts in Juventus-Sevilla involving fans and players

Tension erupted in the final minutes of Juventus-Sevilla at the Allianz Stadium with Spanish and Bianconeri fans throwing objects at each other and Rojiblancos players confronting home supporters.

Federico Gatti’s late goal in Turin allowed the Old Lady to secure a 1-1 draw in the Europa League semifinal first leg against Sevilla at the Allianz Stadium.

There was tension between home and travelling fans even before Gatti’s goal.

More than 1,100 supporters had travelled from Spain and some of them threw objects towards Juventus fans in the final minutes of the game with their team up 1-0. They also tried to go face-to-face with home supporters, but the barriers dividing the away end from the rest of the Allianz Stadium sectors prevented them from doing so.

Stewards promptly distanced Juventus fans from the away section, but tension continued until the end of the game and erupted after the final whistle which was blown seconds after Gatti’s equaliser.

Sevilla reserves in the dugout were seen arguing with Juventus fans in the main stand and more stewards were needed to ensure the two parties didn’t come into contact. Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampos and Bryan Gil seemed particularly irritated and were among those shouting at Juventus fans.

No more incidents occurred after the final whistle and players of both teams left the pitch calmly a few minutes later after waving at fans.
