Man United have decided to put defender Harry Maguire up for sale this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Erik ten Hag has been told by the board he must sell and raise funds this summer in order to invest in new signings, and the Dutchman has decided that the club captain, 29, is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag does not consider Maguire part of his long-term project with the Red Devils and considers it best for all parties if he leaves at the end of the season.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (3 March) that West Ham are interested in signing Maguire this summer as well as Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial.
The 29-year-old centre-back has made just 21 appearances across all competitions this season with a total of 996 minutes on the pitch.
Ten Hag decided against starting Maguire in United’s recent Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, and the Dutchman has preferred the duo of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at the back this season.
Maguire joined United following an £80million move from Leicester City in 2019, and the England international was swiftly handed the captain’s armband at the club.
However, Bruno Fernandes has spent more time on the pitch with the armband this season, with Maguire often limited to a spot on the bench.
Maguire has made 165 total appearances for United since joining the club, scoring seven goals and registering five assists.
