Liverpool target Marcus Thuram but the Inter striker is NOT interested

According to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ Liverpool are seriously thinking of Marcus Thuram for the upcoming season, but the striker is likely to stay at Inter Milan despite the English side’s interest.

Liverpool have reportedly targeted Marcus Thuram as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah, who has been heavily linked with an exit at the end of the season. The 27-year-old moved to Inter Milan on a free transfer last year, ending a four-year spell in the Bundesliga with Borussia Moenchengladbach. With 10 goal contributions so far in the 2024/25 campaign, Thuram might be in the frame to join the Premier League leaders.

To bring him to Anfield Liverpool would have to splash out €85million to trigger the release clause included in his contract with the Serie A champions, valid until 2028. Besides Salah, Arne Slot has five other top-quality options in attack, Jota, Gakpo, Diaz, Nunez and Chiesa, however recent reports have indicated that the last two could also make their way out in the summer.

According to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, “Liverpool already thought [highly of Thuram] during Klopp’s time in charge,” adding that the appreciation for the French superstar “has grown even more in the curren season.” The Italain outlet suggest that Chiesa, a childhood friend of Thuram, could play an important role in a potential transfer. The Reds are seemingly not the only ones interested in the forward, as there have been rumours linking the player to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite ‘FourFourTwo’ deeming the transfer possible, ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ insist that Thuram’s will is to stay in Milan. Having only spent a year-and-a-half with the club, the player seems to have found a home in San Siro. He returned to the stadium on Sunday as a “stranger” during France’s 3-1 win over Italy. Although he defeated his Inter teammates – Barella, Bastoni, Frattesi, Dimarco – Thuram stressed his love for his club’s home ground. “I love this stadium, I love San Siro,” he said post-match.

Should Marcus Thuram not represent a viable option, Liverpool could throw themselves at Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian, who has been lighting it up in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt, has been on the English side’s radar since October, according ‘Sky Sport Germany’. That said, negotiations are likely to depend on Mo Salah and his future at Liverpool.
