“I’d love him to stay even with Amorim” – Onana hails Van Nistelrooy

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana said after the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over PAOK that he would love Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay at the club to work as a member of Ruben Amorim’s staff, although the Cameroonian admitted it is out of his hands.

Andre Onana kept a clean sheet for the fifth time this season as Manchester United recorded their first European win in 380 days after beating PAOK 2-0 at home thanks to Amad Diallo’s brace.

The Red Devils appear to have bounced back after the defeat to West Ham and the subsequent sacking of Erik ten Hag, which led to the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim manager. Under the former Madrid player, the Mancunians have drawn a game against Chelsea and picked up their first three points in the Europa League this season.

However, there is some uncertainty as to whether Van Nistelrooy will remain at the club as Ruben Amorim takes over from 11 November, and the former PSV boss says he has not yet spoken to the Portuguese coach at this stage.

Andre Onana has been the first Red Devils player to publicly ask the Dutchman to stay on as a member of Amorim’s staff, as the Cameroon goalkeeper considers him “a good guy” and “a good coach”.

“I’d love Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay even with Amorim, 100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach and he expects a lot. But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide because the club make the decision,” he told ‘TNT’.
