UEFA has announced the referees for the European Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Atalanta, which will be played on 14 August in Warsaw. The match will be refereed by Sandro Scharer, who has only refereed the Spanish giants once before.
Swiss referee Sandro Scharer will referee the European Super Cup final between Champions League champions Real Madrid and Europa League winners Atalanta. The match will be played at the National Stadium in Warsaw (Poland) on Wednesday 14 August at 21.00 CEST.
Scharer, 36 and an international since 2015, has refereed 86 UEFA competition matches and was selected for Euro 2024. In Germany, he refereed two group matches – Slovenia-Denmark in Group C and Georgia-Portugal in Group F.
The Swiss will be assisted by compatriots Stephane De Almeida and Jonas Erni and Ukraine’s Mykola Balakin, who will act as fourth official. In addition, Bastian Dankert will be the video assistant referee (VAR) and will be assisted by his compatriot Christian Dingert and Fedayi San.
Scharer has only ever refereed Real Madrid on one occasion. That was in the 2022/23 season in Ancelotti’s side’s Champions League debut against Celtic.
