Liverpool defender Joel Matip ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament after suffering an injury in Premier League’s win over Fulham. The Cameroonian has undergone surgery and the result has been successful.
Joel Matip ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in Liverpool’s 4-3 Premier League win over Fulham. The defender had to be substituted in the second half and scans confirmed the ACL tear.
Liverpool have announced on their official website that the surgery Matip was due to undergo has been completed. “A successful operation has now been completed and Matip will continue his rehabilitation programme at the AXA Training Centre,” read the Liverpool’s statement.
“Matip had made 14 appearances in 2023-24 to date – his eighth season with the club – and passed the 200 mark overall for Liverpool. No timescale is currently being placed on his recovery,” concluded the statement.
The Reds are not having good luck with injuries as Mac Allister was recently injured in their last Premier League game. The Argentine’s injury adds to the injury list which includes Matip, Robertson, Diogo Jota, Thiago and Bajcetic.
