Real Madrid have issued a statement regarding the injury suffered by Vinicius during Friday night’s La Liga match against Celta Vigo. The Brazilian is suffering from an “injury to the right biceps femoris muscle”, and it is not yet known how long he will be out.
Vinicius went off injured against Celta Vigo on Friday evening, complaining of a twinge in his thigh after an attacking move.
In a press conference after Real Madrid’s victory over Celta, Carlo Ancelotti reassured the Madrid fans: “Vinicius had a niggle in the first half and we changed him. We’ll see what it is in the next few hours, it looks like some discomfort in the muscle in his leg.
On Monday, following a number of tests carried out on the Brazilian, the ‘Merengues’ released a statement on the player’s fitness, although they did not announce exactly how long he would be unavailable.
“Following tests carried out on Vini. Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the right biceps femoris muscle. His progress will be monitored,” read the statement from the Spanish club.
According to several Spanish outlets, Vinicius is set to be unavailable for between 4 and 6 weeks and is likely to miss the first match of the Champions League group stage on 19th or 20th September. He could also miss the derby against Atletico on 24th September.
