Marcus Rashford has admitted that he was considering leaving Manchester United just before the arrival of now-manager Erik ten Hag. The English international’s brother and agent had met with PSG, and the forward has said he was tempted by a departure, but the manager’s ambition kept him at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United could have looked very different, as the English international admitted he was considering leaving the club last summer.

It turns out that the forward’s brother and agent Dwaine Maynard met with Paris Saint-Germain last summer, not long before the arrival of manager Erik ten Hag, who arrived after United sacked three coaches in six months in 2021-22.

In an interview while on tour with the Red Devils in the USA, the 25-year-old was asked if he had been tempted by a move to leave Old Trafford, and undoubtedly surprisingly to many fans, the answer was yes.

“Before the manager came maybe a little bit [tempted]”, he admitted. “But it’s football it happens“.

Rashford has since done very well under Ten Hag, scoring 30 goals last season, and signing a five-year contract extension earlier this month with his boyhood club. He revealed that the Dutchman’s ambition reignited his own hunger to keep fighting with the Red Devils.

“Now the conversation is a little bit different because I think it’s clear, the manager is very ambitious and he has been since the minute he stepped in. I didn’t really have doubt in my mind about that”, he declared.

I’m hungry to keep improving and the squad and the players and the staff keep improving and getting used to each other, pushing ourselves to be better than we were the year before. That’s the only way we’re going to get back to winning trophies consistently“, he added.
