Arguably Arsenal’s greatest manager, Arsene Wenger, spoke to ‘Eurosport’ and discussed the club’s signing of Declan Rice. The Gunner legend believes that the young midfielder is worth the staggering £105 million paid for him, and has every faith in the young team to go the distance next season.
Arsenal haven’t lifted a Premier League trophy since Arsene Wenger was at the helm in 2003-04. The Frenchman, who took the Gunners to great domestic heights in his 22 years with the the club, spoke to ‘Eurosport’ to discuss how his former club looks now, particularly the record-breaking signing of Declan Rice, which cost £105 million.
The Strasbourg native looks well on the Gunners’ new arrival and their continued focus on young talent: “I think it’s a good investment“, he said. “Overall, personally I think they have made good buys as they are players who are now mature, 23,24, and still young so can stay together for a few years”.
He believes this year, after coming so close to the domestic title last season, the young team will fare better, despite added pressure: “They will be under more pressure after last year, but they have learned a lot and they can show they can deal with that pressure now”.
“Arsenal is now in a good financial situation and bought what they think will win the championship”, he continued, concisely backing his team to leave little doubt: “I believe we will win the championship, it is as simple as that”.
