PSG announced Luis Enrique as their new coach at a press conference. As expected, both the Spanish coach and club president Nasser Al Khelaifi were asked about the future of superstar Kylian Mbappe.
There are doubts surrounding the future of superstar forward Kylian Mbappe after he told the club he would not renew a contract that expires next year. Several high-profile new signings are expected to be confirmed as the club prepares to start pre-season training in the coming days, with a tour to Japan scheduled for later this month.
Luis Enrique was unveiled as PSG coach at an official club press conference. As expected, the Spaniard was asked on a couple of occasions about Mbappe’s future, to which the former Spain coach replied that these were “private things” at the club and that they will try to build the strongest possible team.
After the Spanish coach’s turn came PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who was asked if Mbappe will play for the French side next season after he sent a letter to the club stating that he would not be renewing his contract this coming season.
“My position is very clear: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he has to sign a new contract. We can’t let the best player in the world go for free. We can’t do that. He’s already said ‘I’ll never leave for free’,” said the president.
From what can be deduced from the French club owner’s words is that Mbappe will leave this summer, most likely to Real Madrid, if he does not reach an agreement with the club to renew his contract again.
Real Madrid are still waiting to see how the situation between PSG and the French international is resolved. Los Blancos have enough financial clout to be able to complete the signing of the Bondy-born star.
