Last Wednesday, Borussia Dortmund surprised everyone and officially announced Jude Bellingham’s transfer to Real Madrid for next season. The ‘Merengue’ team paid around 103 million euros, plus variables, to land the English midfielder.
Having secured the arrival of a midfield reinforcement, ‘Los Blancos’ will now have to work hard to strengthen their forward line with the recent departures of Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in urgent need of a striker.
In that sense, the main target was always Harry Kane, the 29-year-old striker whose contract with Tottenham expires in mid-2024 and who would be willing to move in the upcoming transfer window. However, in the last few hours, Madrid’s opinion has changed completely.
After the economic effort made for Bellingham, the Spanish team would not be able to spend the same amount of money for the English striker, so the option of signing the Premier League striker would be in the background, unless Tottenham lower their demands.
Ancelotti dreamed of having Kane, but the truth is that the board will not invest 100 million for a player who is about to reach the age of 30 and who has a salary of 20 million. His arrival is practically impossible and would be ruled out.
In that sense, the candidate that began to gain strength again was Joselu Mato. The striker will not continue at Espanyol next season and could be a low-cost option for the ‘Merengues’.
At 33 years of age, the Spain international does not rule out the possibility of joining Madrid and playing a secondary role in the squad. The agreement between the parties is imminent.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Joselu would not be the only signing for the forward line in the summer transfer window. The Spanish side could make an effort to bring in a younger striker, such as Dusan Vlahovic, who is on his way out of Juventus. It all remains to be seen.
