Inter furious with Lega Serie A: ‘Players’ safety is at risk’

Inter are furious after Lega Serie A announced the kick-off time for their league game against Atalanta, which will be played only 72 hours after their Coppa Italia Final against Fiorentina.

The Nerazzurri have a busy end to the season with three key Serie A games in the race for the top four, the Coppa Italia Final against Fiorentina and the Champions League Final against Manchester City.

Lega Serie A confirmed kick-off times and dates for Week 37 on Friday and Inter discovered that they’ll have to face Atalanta at San Siro only three days after the Coppa Italia Final in Rome.

“It is incomprehensible to have anticipated a game that could have been played even on Monday,” said director Beppe Marotta, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“By doing so, the safety of players is at risk. They are forced to play three games in a week, including a Coppa Italia Final that could also go to extra time.”

The Coppa Italia Final will also be played 72 hours after an away game at Napoli on Sunday, May 21, 2023.

The Nerazzurri sit third in the Serie A table, three points below Juventus and five points above their city rivals Milan who are currently out of the top four.
