As Barcelona are in search of a goalkeeper to replace injured Ter Stegen, La Liga president, Javier Tebas, has assured the club will be given the green light to sign a goalkeeper “with the same salalry range” as the German international, should the medical committee confirm the injury is lon-term.
On Wednesday, La Liga president Javier Tebas explained that Barcelona have the right to sign a new goalkeeper with the same salary as Marc-Andre ter Stegen, if the medical committee of La Liga ratify his long-term injury.
“I have not spoken to Joan Laporta about this. The medical committee of La Liga needs to determine how long the player will be out, so that Barcelona can decide whether to sign a new goalkeeper or not. If what has been said is confirmed and ratified by the medical committee, they have the right to sign a player with the same salary range,” he said
The German international has undergone surgery after rupturing the patellar tendon of his right knee in the match against Villareal at the Estadio de La Cerámica. In an attempt to catch the ball in the air, the goalkeeper landed awkardly, thus suffering the injury. The club have comunicated that his recovery progress will determine when he will be next available.
Tebas spoke on the situation at the 9th congress of the ‘Association of Professional Sports Managers of the Valencian Region’ following his presentation on “professional football and risks of an established industry” in the Caixaforum, located within the Art and Science Museum in Valencia.
