England have failed to live up to the high expectations they came into the tournament with in these first two games of the European Championship. One of the big questions is why Gareth Southgate has not yet used Cole Palmer.

22 goals and 11 assists. 33 goals generated in the Premier League. No one has achieved that on more occasions this season, but that doesn’t seem to be enough of an argument for Cole Palmer to get minutes at this European Championship.

Palmer has not played in either game in a poor England side that dropped two points against Denmark and failed to put in a solid performance in either game.

Southgate has preferred to start Foden on the left, Saka on the right and Kane as No 9 in both games. In fact, Palmer has not even played as a substitute.

Southgate opted to bring on Jarrod Bowen on the wing in the 1-0 win over Serbia and only used three of the five changes he is allowed by regulation.

He did make more changes against Denmark, also due to the result, with Southgate changing the entire attacking flank to bring on Eze, Bowen again and Watkins.

Cole Palmer could get his first European Championship minutes after being one of the Premier League’s best performers against Slovenia in the game that could seal England’s qualification.
