Deschamps reveals Mbappe to undergo nose surgery after Euros

France coach Didier Deschamps spoke to France’s official media and confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will undergo surgery at the end of the European Championship. He also revealed that he will undergo further tests on Wednesday.

Kylian Mbappe set off alarm bells across France after withdrawing from his debut against Austria with an injury. Shortly afterwards it was confirmed that the Frenchman had broken his nose and could even undergo surgery. As the hours went by, this was ruled out. However, he will have to play with a mask and even his presence in the match against the Netherlands on Friday is in serious doubt.

France coach Didier Deschamps said Kylian Mbappe was “a little better” on Tuesday and will be “closely monitored every day” to assess the timing of his return to competition at Euro 2024, after suffering a broken nose in Monday’s Group D opener against Austria in Dusseldorf.

More tests will be carried out on Wednesday to see how he evolves. It was a major shock. The medical staff did everything necessary to reduce it as much as possible, after the examinations. Even if there is no surgery right away, he will have to have it. Already this morning he was a bit better, so we will see. We will follow it closely every day,” he told the official media of the French Football Federation on Tuesday.

There will be more tests on Wednesday to make sure what we see,” added Deschamps, whose striker is in serious doubt for his side’s next game, next Friday against the Netherlands, and the one after that against Poland, although he will remain in contention at Euro 2024 to return to action with a protective mask.
