Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specialising in the transfer market, reports that Bruno Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho has met with several top European clubs. Neither his departure from Manchester United nor a renewal at Old Trafford is ruled out if he is convinced by the long-term project.
Bruno Fernandes is an example of loyalty at Manchester United. He arrived in January 2020 from Sporting CP in a €55m deal that he has honoured over the years despite a losing record at Old Trafford. However, his patience could be stretched to the limit this summer as, according to Fabrizio Romano, his agent, Miguel Pinha, has been meeting with several teams.
The only detail that has been revealed about his suitors is that they are of top European level, as was easy to foresee. It was even less obvious, however, that a Saudi Arabian or American club would not come into consideration, countries that have been on the rise in the most recent transfer windows. Marco Reus, for example, is being talked about a lot as a potential signing for an American club now that he is leaving Borussia Dortmund.
The Portuguese, in any case, does not rule out staying at the Mancunian outfit. The fact is that he has a contract until the summer of 2026, so after 2025, his price would have to be drastically reduced in view of the possibility of him leaving as a free agent. At the moment, his price tag is €100m and his most recent renewal dates back to early 2022, when he extended his contract, which, at the time, already ran until 2025.
Whether he stays at Manchester United will depend on how he views the long-term project at both managerial and technical level. At the moment, the coaching staff is in the hands of Erik ten Hag, who ends his stay, if he does not renew his contract, at the end of the 2024-25 season. Despite launching an undeniable improvement in the 22-23 season, the 23-24 season saw a new slump that has brought a lot of criticism towards him.
