Xavi Hernandez had a brief meeting with president Joan Laporta after Barcelona’s home win over Rayo Vallecano, but coach and president will have talks about the tactician’s continuity after the visit of Sevilla on the final day of the season.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and coach Xavi Hernandez will not meet until after next Sunday’s match against Sevilla in the final round of La Liga to discuss the continuity of the coach, who has one year left on his contract.
Laporta and Xavi had a brief meeting on Sunday at the Estadio Olimpico Lluis Companys, minutes after the 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano that mathematically secured second place for the ‘Cules’, but they will wait until the end of the season to discuss next season.
From the press room, the Catalan coach spoke cautiously, stating that the president “has always been honest” and that he trusts that, on this occasion, he will act in the same way. “We have to talk somehow, but I’m calm. I was with Deco (sporting director) and Rafa Yuste (vice-president) the other day and they are calm,” said the coach.
Unless there is a change in the next few days, Xavi, who was publicly ratified in the position three weeks ago, will not be Barcelona’s coach next season.
