Erling Haaland officially won his first Golden Boot after finishing top scorer in the Premier League 2022/23. The Norwegian broke the all-time goal-scoring record in a single season to 36, while silver went to Harry Kane with 30 and Ivan Toney took bronze with 20.
The Premier League was already a home of great strikers, but in this 2022-23 season it has become a galaxy of strikers who aspire to win the ‘Golden Boot’, the trophy for the top scorer in the domestic competition.
Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez’s signings were the main boost, although there were also internal moves that could bolster the careers of players such as Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison and Sterling. Nor are the classics like Harry Kane or Mohamed Salah missing from the race.
Precisely Salah and Heung-min Son shared the last award after drawing at 23 goals, which was the third one for the Egyptian striker in his career. The same ones that Kane has won and that Alan Shearer, the top scorer in the history of the championship, was awarded.
This season, Erling Haaland has been almost unchallenged despite Harry Kane’s fine form. The Norwegian scored 36 goals, more than any other player in a Premier League season, to the Englishman’s 30, which was no match for his own personal record. Brentford striker Ivan Toney also had a brilliant year, scoring 20.
